EDIT 16 July 2010 – Just another waste of time. I can’t help but wonder, what the whole point is of doing something like this? Is it a joke? Is it another scam? Some people really have too much time on their hands…
So just ignore, as attractive as it may seem!!!

Needing urgent help. These huskies and their pups will be put down if they don’t find a home very quickly! I don’t even want to know what kind of person can go so low. See the message below for more info.

Anyone want a puppy? Or know someone who does?
Looking for urgent housing for the above huskies, otherwise they will unfortunately be put down.
The female is 2 years old, the male 1.5 years old and the pups are 8 weeks old.

FIFA tourists, don’t believe the hype!

I saw this really funny photo on Facebook and just had to add my two cents worth. Whether it is a joke or not, it does give you a kind of sickening feeling to the pit of your stomache. (after having a good laugh about it) This obviously has to do with the build up to the FIFA World Cup to be hosted here in South Africa in about 2 months time.

Seriously, if any tourists to our beautiful country read this and have any fears, please be at peace. What you hear and see in the media has a lot of hype attached to it. We might have our problems in South Africa, but it is not that bad.

And for those who were wondering. No we also do not have lions, rhinos or giraffe roaming the streets, they are all out in the wild or locked away safely in game reserves!

One thing I must say, please no bad vibes, manners or any mass paranoia allowed, leave those at the airport before boarding.

Earthdance Port Elizabeth

It’s the weekend people and for the first time Port Elizabeth will also be hosting Earthdance!

Earthdance is a worldwide affair. The mission, to promote peace by joining participants worldwide in a synchronized PRAYER FOR PEACE and to support humanitarian causes through the global language of music and dance.
A percentage of proceeds are donated to a charity.

The PE event will start on Wednesday and run through to Sunday.The event boasts 51 local, national and international deejays set to spin decks for a whopping ninety hours in an attempt to mix music with global prayers for peace.

There will be 360 parties taking place across the planet and the Port Elizabeth party – which has been marketed from East London to Wilderness, Cradock to Graaff-Reinet – will have something for everyone, organisers say.

The festival will take place at the Rover Race Track on Victoria Drive where there will be live acts, fire jugglers, magicians, clothing stores and even an aerobatic display on Thursday contributing to the carnival atmosphere.

Missing Husky

We’ve got another missing husky here. He is a 6 year old male with one blue and one brown eye. He is light brown and white in colour with a medium build. He went missing on the 4th of September 2009 in the Pretoria – Lynwood area. His name is Pupha and he is very intelligent (opens doors, does tricks, etc). Please be on the lookout for him as we are sure he misses his family.

Google Maps Street View in PE

The Herald reported this morning that a vehicle marked with a Google Maps sign and a large metal frame with camera mounted on it’s roof has been spotted driving around Port Elizabeth.
Google has been creating panoramic imagery taken at street level of major cities around the world. So far more than 100 metropolitan areas worldwide has been mapped this way.

With the 2010 World Cup fever mounting, Google has started mapping the major cities in South Africa. People have been showing interest in experiencing some South African culture first-hand.

So when you come across this vehicle, don’t forget to put on your best smile!

World Wide Web Applications Conference in PE

The 11th Annual Conference on World Wide Web Applications (ZA-WWW) is to be hosted by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University this year from 2-4 September 2009.

The number of “foreign” language sites, the politics of the web, search engines and search techniques, cyber ethics, e-learning and e-commerce are but some of the topics of the 11th Annual Conference on World Wide Web Applications (ZA-WWW) to be hosted by Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University from 2 to 4 September 2009.

Coming to Port Elizabeth for the first time since it started more than a decade ago, the conference will stand out in terms of the extent and variety of new research results being shared between scholars and industry.

According to the local organising chairperson and senior lecturer at the NMMU School of Information and Communication Technology Ms Darelle van Greunen, the ZA-WWW stands out as a true multi-disciplinary event. “Researchers (academics and those from industry) are brought together from the wide spectrum of human knowledge: with web applications as the common denominator,” said Van Greunen. She said that the aim of the conference is to provide academics, researchers and web developers with an opportunity to describe and discuss innovative and fresh internet.

“The conference provides where ideas and experiences on a national and international basis are shared. It promotes networking and business opportunities, encourages study and use of the World Wide Web.”

Conference presentations at Pine Lodge Conference Centre will consist of addresses by invited keynote speakers, peer-reviewed papers on current research results, industry reports, new web-based product reviews by prominent businesses, research progress reports and poster presentations and tutorials.

Van Greunen said the conference also provides the opportunity to liaise with possible future business partners and build strong brands and visibility throughout South Africa through exhibitions.

Stress Free Outdoor Clubbing

This past Saturday we attended a trance party at Glendore Arms in Port Elizabeth (PE). The party was organised by a group calling themselves, Stress Free Outdoor Clubbing. It was awesome and I’d like to help these guys get the word out there as they are talking about having these parties every second week.
The DJ line-up was great. They are all professionals and have a real wide variety of music. Their music is exciting and fresh. Not like some of these parties you go to where you just hear the same tunes you heard at last weeks party.

I had a chance to chat to some of the organisers and besides having a party at Glendore Arms every second week they also have events at other venues in the pipeline.

Glendore Arms is the perfect venue for these parties as there is a huge outside garden with braai areas and it’s just outside of town, so no neighbours who can comlpain. The owner of the venue is also a very friendly character and well worth meeting if you get the chance. Glendore Arms normally operates as a pub and is mostly open for all the major sports events. You can get there by driving through Pari Park and following the road you’ll find the venue on your right just before you get to the Schoenmakerskop road.

If you’re into trance, dub or drum & bass, these guys are the ones to follow. This is definitely a new one for PE (Port Elizabeth). We don’t have many of these events. And the bonus is, you get that feeling of being out of town without actually leaving town!

All over the world residents, companies and governments are turning out their lights to highlight the threat of climate change.
For 1 hour on Saturday, 28 March 2009, starting at 8:30pm, the world will turn out the lights.

globe.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when more than 2.2 million families and businesses turned off their lights for Earth Hour on Saturday 31 March 2007.

Just one year later, Earth Hour reached 370 cities and towns in more than 35 countries across 18 timezones, and the campaign shifted from a Sydney event to a global sustainability movement.

An estimated 50 to 100 million people around the world switched off their lights for Earth Hour in 2008, and global landmarks including the Rome’s Coliseum, the Coke billboard in Times Square in New York and Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai darkened for one hour.

In 2009, Earth Hour aims to reach 1 billion people around the world in more than 1000 cities involving business, government and the community in the world’s largest global action on climate action on 28 March 2009.

Even Google is joining the event by turning its background black each year for Earth hour.

Touch Screen stolen from Liquid in St Francis Bay

Recently Liquid, a pub in St Francis Bay, was re-opened by one of the locals. It is a great place to hang out and offers a wide variety of entertainment, including a pool table, live acts and cocktails.

Unfortunately even a place like St Francis Bay has its bad elements. Liquid also has (had) one of those coin operated touch screens that offers a variety of games. Recently someone thought it would be funny to steal this machine.

There is a reward on offer for the return of this machine. NO questions asked. If anyone has any information, please contact me via the contact page on this site.
