Hope everyone had a great New Years. For the first time in year’s we decided to go away for a change.
We were lucky enough to find space on very short notice at a place called Rocky Ridge Guest Farm just outside Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape.
We were a group of 12 and left on the 30th of December.
Arriving there we had some difficulty finding the place as they have no sign outside.
We were greeted by the owners right outside our cabins.
From the balcony we could see all the way to Port Alfred which is about 4km’s away from Rocky Ridge.
Everything was catered for, as should be expected from self catering accommodation. We all shared two cabins situated right next to each other. One of them had a TV and microwave. The cabins are rather small, especially the doors and shower, which seemed to have been built with dwarves and children in mind. Being 6’6″, I found this rather irritating.
There is also a self-service bar, pool and braai area about a 200m walk from the cabins. We made full use of this of course. This is a really nice entertainment area. With the only drawback being having to walk back in the dark.
We made a potjie on New Years and besides bringing our own food and potjie didn’t really need anything else.
One other drawback that comes to mind is the fact that there is no sleeping late nursing a babelas as the cabins have tin roofs. As soon as the sun comes up, the cabins become big saunas. There are fans in the rooms, but these are not adequate enough to dispel the heat.
Over all a good time was had by all. I would definitely recommend Rocky Ridge Guest Farm if you are going to make full use of all six beds per unit. For that they are not badly priced and the price is equal to what you get for your money.
They do not have their own website, but you can find out more about them here, Rocky Ridge Guest Farm.
